Overview

Welcome to the Accessible Reading for Educators Course. This Course gives you an opportunity to explore, prepare, deliver, and sustain solutions for students with a print disability in your school.

The Course provides an insight into the latest studies and resources available to Educators and shows how an EasyReader Education Plan can help support students with a print disability.

Course Objectives

After studying this course, you will be able to:

  • Define the concept of accessible reading and its importance in inclusive education.
  • List the types of disabilities that qualify as print disabilities.
  • Identify students who are eligible for Accessible Library membership.
  • Describe the online library resources available to support students with print disabilities.
  • Explain the registration process for schools to join an Accessible Library
  • Demonstrate how to implement an accessible reading initiative at scale within a school or district.
  • Summarize the benefits of an EasyReader Education Plan for teachers and administrators.
  • Explain the advantages of the EasyReader App for students with a print disability.

The course should take approximately 3 hours to complete.

The Course follows the Education Endowment Foundation framework and is broken down into the following key parts.

  • Explore: Lesson 1, 2, and 3 explores current research into accessible reading, discusses current library resources, and introduces the EasyReader Education Plan.
  • Prepare: Lesson 4 and 5 presents a strategy on how you may prepare for implementing technology into a school and shows how to manage student logins within the EasyReader Education Plan.
  • Deliver: Lessons 6 to 10 shows you how technology can be used to download and read books in a way students will find comfortable and effective irrespective of their print disability.
  • Sustain: The remaining lessons focus on how students can use this technology at school, on the move, and at home, and how teachers can gain insights into student reading habits.

Certification

This Course comprises 13 lessons and an end of course quiz. You can request a certificate and digital badge on successful completion of this course.
