  • Correctly state three other features in the EasyReader App that may benefit your students.
  • Correctly state at least three other resources where you can go to learn more about the EasyReader App and the EasyReader Premium service.

This lesson should take no more than twenty minutes to complete.

Introduction

In this course you learnt about the features, application and configuration of the EasyReader Premium service, and that:

  • EasyReader Premium builds upon the EasyReader App. This App is used by thousands of people around the world and offers an easy-to-use interface that is designed with accessibility at its heart.
  • EasyReader Premium gives educators the ability to manage student logins to the EasyReader App.
  • EasyReader Premium enables educators to monitor their students' usage of the EasyReader App.
  • EasyReader Premium provides direct access to accessible books from over forty libraries around the world.
  • EasyReader Premium enables you to sign in to a Google Classroom and Microsoft Education account in the EasyReader App. Once signed in, you will be able to browse and open files supported by EasyReader App and have either been added to Google Classroom as "Material" or added to Microsoft Education as "Assignment".
  • EasyReader Premium enables students to synchronise their books, reading position and bookmarks across multiple devices on multiple platforms.

The processes you accomplished during this course included:

  • Downloading your first book.
  • Opening your first book.
  • Navigating to the opening chapter of your first book.
  • Playing your first book.
  • Changing the appearance of your book.
  • Changing the audio output when reading a book.
  • Adding, removing and managing  bookmarks and study notes.
  • Recognising the elements that are synchronised with the EasyReader Premium service.

Other features to explore

Through the previous lessons you learnt about key EasyReader Premium and EasyReader App features but before bringing this course to a close, there are three more features worth a brief mention.

Fixing mispronunciations from a synthetic voice

If you listen to textbooks using a synthetic voice and you discover a word is not correctly pronounced, for example, "Jekyll" may not be pronounced "Jekhl", then you can resolve this by adding a correction into the pronunciation list.

You can add a correction in 'Audio settings' in the reading screen or make a correction in the following way:

  1. Right click, or tap, hold and then release your finger on the word which is mispronounced. This opens a context menu.
  2. Select 'Add correction'. A screen will open with your selected word in the 'Original word' field.
  3. Type how you want the voice to read your word in the 'Should sound like' field. You may need to experiment with your spelling to improve the pronunciation.
  4. Once you are happy, save and return to your book.

You can create as many entries as you require. You may also want to create more than one pronunciation list if you need to resolve different pronunciation errors in different TTS voices, or the particular subject you are reading contains abbreviations you wish to be read in full at other times. You can select, edit and remove entries in a Pronunciation list through 'Audio settings'.

EasyReader Premium does not synchronise pronunciation lists you create. But, with EasyReader App for Windows it is possible to import and export your pronunciation files. You may wish to do this if you support students on the Windows platform who are studying the same text and will be experiencing the same pronunciation issues.

Import documents

Students can import various forms of documents into EasyReader App. This might include workbooks from their teachers, lesson notes they receive from other students, or books they receive from external sources.

The following file types are supported:

  • DAISY version 2 and 3 (.zip format).
  • EPUB version 2 and 3.
  • HTML.
  • Plain text.
  • Microsoft Word (.docx).
  • PDF (accessible).

The steps you follow to import a file into EasyReader App differs depending on the platform and the apps you are using.

To import a file using an iOS device or Mac computer:

  1. Select the file you want to import into EasyReader App.
  2. Choose the "Share" or comparable option within the app.
  3. Select "EasyReader".

To do this using an Android device or Windows computer:

  1. Open EasyReader.
  2. Select the "Import" button on the "My Books" screen.
  3. Locate and open the file.

After selecting the file, EasyReader App copies, converts, and opens the file in the Reader screen, and the imported file appears in the "My Books" screen.

EasyReader Premium only synchronises books you download from online libraries to your other devices. Documents you import into EasyReader App are not synchronised between your devices.

Save and read clipboard text

You can save text you copy to the Clipboard in EasyReader App. You may find this useful if you need to store and read information from other sources.

To open text from the clipboard:

  1. Find, select, and copy the text you want to save to the Clipboard.
  2. Open the EasyReader App.
  3. From the "Side menu", select "My Clipboard Texts".
  4. Choose the "add" button. You will be asked to give the entry a title, offering a segment of the current Clipboard text as a suggestion. You should give the entry a meaningful name for ease of reference.
  5. Enter a title and choose the "OK" button.
  6. Select your entry from the "My Clipboard Texts" list to view your text in the Reader.

Tip: If you are using Windows, you can press CONTROL + V when the "My Books" screen or the "My Clipboard Texts" screen has focus to paste your copied text into EasyReader.

  • With EasyReader Premium, all clipboard entries you create on one device are synchronised across your other devices. This ensures you can continue your studies uninterrupted.

Help and support

You can further your knowledge of the EasyReader Premium service and the EasyReader App using a variety of free online resources.

These include:

  • Product Help pages, which you can access by selecting the Help option in the EasyReader App.
  • Support articles, which you can access through the Dolphin Knowledge Base
  • Webinars which demonstrate the use of EasyReader App with different libraries. Visit the Webinar Calendar on the Dolphin website for a full list of upcoming webinars.
  • Further information on improving accessibility in education can also be found on the Dolphin Blog.
