Viewing an interactive whiteboard
Reading time: 4 minutes.
Introduction
SuperNova enables you to connect to and view another computer screen on your own screen such as a teacher’s interactive whiteboard. This is done with the assistance of Virtual Networking Computing (VNC) Technology.
Tip: If you are a teacher, TA, or member of the support staff and would like to learn more about SuperNova’s application of VNC Technology, then please see Connect & View FAQs for Schools & Colleges.

Connecting to and viewing an interactive whiteboard computer
To connect to an interactive whiteboard requires both computers to be sharing the same network, and for you (the student) to know the machine name and password for the teacher’s computer. Your teacher can provide you with this information.
With this information at hand, you can connect by doing the following:
- From the SuperNova Control Panel "Connect and View Settings" dialog box (ALT + V, N), open the "Whiteboard" page, and select the computer you want to connect to from the "Devices" list.
- If this is a new connection, select the "Add" button and complete the Profile, Machine Name, and Password, plus any other fields as instructed by your teacher. Select the "OK" button to confirm your changes, and then select and confirm the new profile from the Devices list.
- Press ALT + NUMPAD ENTER to view the Interactive whiteboard. Alternatively, select "Connect and View" from the SuperNova Control Panel (ALT + V, O).
Set the viewport position
You can change the position of the viewport through the "Connect and View Settings" dialog box (ALT + V, N). The options are available in the "general" page. The changes you make apply to both the camera and whiteboard viewport.
By default, you press CAPS LOCK + MIDDLE MOUSE BUTTON to switch between the viewport and your desktop. If you have a camera and whiteboard viewport active, repeating the hotkey will cycle you through the different screens.
If you find the default hotkey is not suitable, please use the available options to assign an alternative hotkey.
Adjusting the image
When the viewport has focus, you can manipulate the image in the following ways:
- Magnify.
- Rotate.
- Lock (freeze).
- Adjust contrast.
- Apply a colour scheme.
- Copy the image to the Windows Clipboard to enable pasting into another app. The image you copy to the Windows Clipboard is the full image, irrespective of the size of magnification you are using. You can also press CAPS LOCK + P to copy the image to the Windows Clipboard.
With SuperNova Magnifier & Speech, you can also:
- Convert your image to text.
- Add annotations and highlights to images.
- Export to Word, PDF, and Google Drive.
