Overview
Welcome to lesson 11 of 13 in the Accessible Reading for Educators Course. In this lesson you will learn about the elements EasyReader App synchronises across devices, enabling students to seamlessly continue their studies in class and home.
Lesson Objectives
After studying this lesson, you will be able to:
- List the features that EasyReader synchronises across devices when students use the Education Plan.
- Explain when synchronisation occurs for each type of content (e.g., books, settings, bookmarks).
- Describe good practice for ensuring successful synchronisation when students switch between devices.
- Differentiate between synchronised and non-synchronised content types (e.g., imported books vs. library books).
- Recommend strategies to students and staff to maintain data consistency across multiple devices.
This lesson should take no more than 10 minutes to complete.
Synchronisation
The EasyReader Education Plan means students’ can seamlessly continue their studies at school, on the move, and at home as the App synchronises key settings across devices.
But what information is synchronised?
Feature | Sync Point | Notes |
Books listed on the My Books screen |
When the My Books screen is opened; when the Reader screen is opened; and when the download progress of a library book reaches 100%. |
Excludes books imported from other sources. |
Library book last reading position | When the My Books screen is opened; when the book is opened in the Reader screen; and throughout the reading of the book. | Excludes books imported from other sources. |
Bookmark positions and text notes | When a book is opened in the Reader screen; and when returning to the My Books screen. | Excludes books imported from other sources. |
Library list (Side menu) | When you close EasyReader App
Library logins | When login is successful | Excludes libraries using the OAuth login credentials. |
Text settings in Reader screen | When a book is opened in the Reader screen; and when returning to the My Books screen. | Excludes Text size |
Audio settings in Reader screen | When a book is opened in the Reader screen; and when returning to the My Books screen. | Applies specifically to "Play sound on bookmark" and "Play on navigation" settings. |
Pronunciation lists for TTS Voices | When a book is opened in the Reader screen; and when returning to the My Books screen.
Clipboard entries | When opening My Clipboard Texts; and when a new entry is added. |
Good practice - Ensuring synchronisation occurs
Besides ensuring access to the Internet is available, students who work on multiple devices should ensure they close the current book they are reading and return to the "My Books" screen before closing the Ap to ensure all elements are synchronised prior to switching to another device.
This ensures all settings are saved to the cloud and, when they log into another device, there updates will be automatically applied.
Summary
In this brief lesson you learnt about the features of EasyReader App that are synchronised across devices when a student logs into their Account. You also learnt the importance of ensuring the EasyReader App is closed to ensure all settings are successfully saved.
Quiz
Below are two sample quiz questions based on this lesson. Please spend no more than five minutes considering the answers to these questions.
- Which of the following statements is true?
- Files students import into the EasyReader App from external sources are synchronised across devices.
- EasyReader App remembers all student logins including those using the OAuth sign in process.
- To ensure successful synchronisation, students should close the current book they are reading and then close the EasyReader App.
- Pronunciation lists, which are entries students make to correct the mispronunciation of words by a TTS voice, are synchronised across devices. Is this statement true?
- Yes.
- No.
